Melanie, Head of Customer Service, joined the Society in 1994 after graduating from University. Her career started as a customer service assistant in the mortgage completions team before undertaking several roles across the branch network and head office departments. Her roles included administration manager, marketing manager and customer service manager.
Melanie commented: “After an initial period in the completions team, I spent three years in branches at a time when there was no mortgage regulation. It took three weeks to qualify as a mortgage adviser and a further three weeks as an underwriter – unlike now when qualifying is much more rigorous and involved!”
Reflecting on her career, Melanie said: “When I look back on my career, it certainly has been varied which is what I love about working here. I also truly buy into and relate to the family orientated and supportive culture. I am lucky to have worked with a lot of wonderful people in the last 25 years.”
With 11 years of banking experience already under her belt, Deborah, Branch Manager at the Society’s Wokingham branch, joined as a Saturday Cashier following a career break to start a family. In 2009 she was promoted to her current role alongside her colleague Charlotte Hall.
Deborah commented: “I enjoy ensuring our members have a positive experience and it is rewarding when they recommend their friends and family to us. I am extremely proud the Wokingham branch is currently ‘branch of the year’- our third successful win since I started!”
