Thank you for choosing to open a savings account with Newbury Building Society.

Before you get started, we would like to share what to expect when you apply for an online savings account.

  • We welcome applications from customers aged 18 or over.

  • Your account must be for you or you and a joint holder, not be opened on behalf of another person.

  • For joint accounts, the second account holder will need to register for myaccounts to access the account.

  • You will need your National Insurance Number; available on a payslip, P60 or HMRC correspondence.

  • Sometimes we limit eligibility to our local operating area, please check that you qualify before applying.

  • If you wish to use a branch in addition to the online service, please take identification on your first visit and we will issue you with a passbook.

If you are under 18 or wish to open an account on behalf of another person, you can do this in a branch, or by post. We will need additional information from you if you want to open an account on behalf of another person, so please contact one of our branches for advice.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you have applied, we will need to process and approve your application before you pay in your initial deposit from your nominated bank account. Please do not make a deposit before you hear from us, as your funds may be returned.

Whilst you are waiting for us to confirm your account has been approved, the following will happen:

  • You will be sent two emails confirming your user name and instructions on how to set up your password and memorable information.

  • Once you have set up your password and memorable information, you will be able to access the myaccounts portal and view the number that has been provisionally assigned to your account.

  • Please do not make a deposit before you hear from us, as your funds may be returned.

Once we have approved your account, we will:

  • Send a secure message to confirm your account is open and ready for you to make your initial deposit, or whether we need further information.

  • The further information we may require will likely relate to confirming your identity or bank details. In most cases, we will not require additional information.

To make a withdrawal online, you will need a verification activation code. When we have approved your application, this will be sent by post to your registered address, as an additional layer of security, on top of your security credentials.

If you need support, we have FAQs on our website. We think we have covered everything you need to be aware of on this page, however if there is anything you need help with, you can call us on 0800 988 4857 or email us and our myaccounts team will be happy to help you.

Please note that in times of high-volume applications, phone calls may be supported by colleagues in our branches to enable your query is responded to. If this is the case, they will either help you with your query, or will ask the myaccounts team to give you a call back. Urgent requests relating to access to funds will be prioritised, followed by opening of new accounts in the order the application was received.

We are open between 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (9.30am to 5.00pm Wednesdays) and 9.00am to 12.00pm on Saturdays. We are closed Sundays and Bank Holidays.
