Society brings birthday celebrations to Basingstoke

Newbury Building Society’s Basingstoke branch will be five-years-old on Thursday 29 October and we hope our members will turn out in force to help celebrate the occasion.

Visitors to the branch at Festival Place will be able to toast its success with free tea and cake.

We believe that our members are at the heart of our success. Established in 1856, we understand what our existing members want and deliver it to them effectively time and time again. As our members evolve so do we, offering products and services which allow us to grow with them.

Basingstoke is also growing. It’s an hour from the coast and capital, offering exciting opportunities coupled with beautiful countryside; little wonder so many people choose to live there. The Society has attended many successful First Time Buyer events in the town, for people who want to get their feet on the property ladder, helping prospective buyers learn about the buying process.

At the Society we are very proud of what we do and we are committed to helping people with their mortgage and savings needs. Our Junior Newbury Building Society (JNBS) scheme enables children to save money much in the same way they would at our eleven branches. It is part of the Society’s continued commitment to supporting education in the local community, helping each participating school to run their own ‘branch’ so pupils can pay money into their accounts. We currently have five schools taking part in Basingstoke and 24 across Central Southern England.

Last but not least, the Society is proud to support the communities it serves. Over the last five years our staff have been involved with the Basingstoke Half Marathon, Basingstoke Town Colts Football Tournament, teamed up with The Breeze for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Giving Tree, and appeared at many local events to raise money for the branch’s chosen charity, St. Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke.

Diane Long, Development Manager at the Society, said: “Having been based at the Basingstoke branch for the last three years, I am really excited to be able to celebrate our 5th birthday this month.

“The branch team really feel part of the local community and have built many relationships with local businesses too. Over the last five years we have supported many charitable groups and are regulars at local community events. We work with several primary schools in the area to train Year 6 students as cashiers to run JNBS branches in their school and also run employability workshops for some of the local senior schools.

“It’s amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come, but also to look forward over the next 5 years and know that we have so much more to do to support and help the local people in Basingstoke and surrounding areas with both mortgage and savings advice. I’m proud to be a part of a local building society that wants to be part of their local community and to make a difference to the people who live and work in our town.”

Why not pop in and help us celebrate five wonderful years in Basingstoke? With tea and cake being served on the day, it’s the perfect opportunity to find out what we can do for you.
