A night the Society may never forget

Newbury Building Society has been nominated in the Most Effective Compliance Training Programme category at this year’s Thomson Reuters Compliance Awards.

The awards ceremony – held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 5 November 2015 - is in its 11th year and will once again be judged by a panel of highly respected financial services experts.

The Society’s Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) Team implemented a radical new training solution which has dramatically improved the effectiveness with which staff acquire and retain regulatory compliance knowledge. Enlisting the help of Elephants Don’t Forget (EDF), Clever Nelly is a unique and engaging application that reinforces training and embeds knowledge through continuous assessment and measurement.

Charlotte Courtenay, part of the four-strong ELP team, said: “Nelly, as she is affectionately known throughout the Society, has helped us achieve a non-intrusive, role specific, effective and engaging training programme. It is vital that staff understand the areas of regulatory compliance applicable to their roles and Nelly has proven that this can be done in a fun, quick and easy way.”

Staff members improve their know-how simply by answering the questions on screen, watching their knowledge levels increase and standards sustained through repetition. The Society can then understand at a glance the level of knowledge and capability within its business to ensure that future training is precisely targeted where there is a proven and relevant requirement.
