Newbury supports local autism charity

Autism Berkshire has a received a donation of £500 from Newbury Building Society.

Following a successful application to the Society’s Community Support Scheme, the charity received £500 to help support its bi-monthly Lego Club, based in Woolhampton.

The club provides an opportunity for children aged six to 15 years to play creatively and develop social skills and friendships in a fun and supportive environment.

Jane Stanford-Beale, CEO of Autism Berkshire said: “We receive funding from a range of sources, but it is always especially pleasing to get a donation from another organisation based in Berkshire, such as the Newbury Building Society. Like us, it has a strong commitment to the county and the Community Support Scheme provides a straightforward way for local groups and charities to secure valuable funding for their work.”

William Crossley, Grants and Trust Officer added: “Schemes such as the Community Support Scheme provide a way for organisations to demonstrate their involvement in and commitment to the places they operate, by supporting a variety of initiatives that may not attract the interest of large national funders. This donation gives us a head-start on raising the money we need to fund the club’s activities in 2020-21 as our current funding runs out at the end of March 2020.”

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “It was a pleasure to donate to the running costs of the popular Lego Club, and play a small part in the success of Autism Berkshire’s leisure activities for those living with autism. We hope the children and their families continue to enjoy and benefit from the sessions.”

Autism Berkshire (charity no. 1076217) delivers quality specialist services, training and social and leisure activities for people living with autism.

The Community Support Scheme offers bi-annual funding of between £100 - £500 for local projects and charities in the Society’s operating area. Applications are open for Spring 2020 and will close early May.
