NBS employee springs into action for Alzheimer’s Society

An employee of Newbury Building Society took to the pavement for this year’s annual Memory Walk at King’s Meadow, Reading for Alzheimer’s Society, raising £490 for the charity.

Deborah Springer, Senior Finance Assistant at the Society joined over 2000 fundraisers to walk in memory of loved-ones who have been touched by Alzheimer’s.

The national event hosted across the UK is split into two walks (2.5 km and 6 km); Deborah undertook both and walked 8.5km in total. Every penny raised will go towards funding new research and providing support to more people than ever before. The Memory Walk hopes to raise over £9 million to support everyone affected by dementia.

£500 raised could pay for 700 copies of the new ‘Outstanding Your Diagnosis” booklets, helping those recently diagnosed with dementia understand more about the condition and how to come to terms with some of the feelings they might be having.

Deborah said: “The Alzheimer’s Society holds a very dear place in my heart and I was eager to involve myself in this year’s Memory Walk. It was a fantastic day. The whole atmosphere was wonderful and it was great to see the people of West Berkshire turn up to support those taking part. Even the weather was on our side! I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me for their generosity and I hope this small act goes someway in helping those touched by dementia.”

The Alzheimer’s Society (charity no: 296645) has been Newbury Building Society’s head office nominated charity since 2017.
