A lick of paint for Didcot primary school

Team members from Newbury Building Society’s Didcot branch seized their paintbrushes and visited local school, Chilton County Primary School, to help brighten up the student’s outdoor space.

Julie Harris, Senior Branch Manager was joined by three Customer Service Advisers, Samantha James, Hannah Tame and Tina Maughan, who spent time painting wellie racks and the outdoor seating area. The volunteers also offered to sort equipment in the science lab and weed grass areas of the surrounding ground.

The visit to the school was part of the Society’s employee volunteering programme, an initiative which gives employees a 2-day volunteering allowance to support a charity, community project or local institution of their choice.

Christine Reardon, School Business Manager at Chilton County Primary School said: “It was a great privilege to host the volunteers from Newbury Building Society.  Their hard work and enthusiasm in freshening up the outdoor areas have resulted in a bright and fun environment for the children.  We are always happy to host volunteers as it brings benefits to both the school and society.”

Julie said: “It was a real pleasure to spend a day at Chilton School. I had a brilliant time and I really enjoyed painting the welly racks. I hope the children will now enjoy putting their wellies on them!”

Hannah agreed and commented: “It was a nice feeling to spend the day out of the branch to help the local community. The area outside the classrooms is now more colourful and inviting for the children at the school.”

“It was lovely to see the children’s faces when they saw the brightly coloured wellie racks; one even said they thought they looked really cool,” Tina commented.
