Alton branch help raise £2,500 for the Fire Fighters Charity

Newbury Building Society’s Alton branch supported the 2016 Bob Simmonds Memorial Concert to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

A cheque presentation took place at Alton Fire Station on Wednesday 2 November 2016 after All Saints’ Church in Alton hosted a concert performed by the Royal Marines School of Music which raised £2,500 for The Fire Fighters Charity . The event was organised in memory of musician Bob Simmonds, killed in the IRA bombing of the Royal Marine’s Deal Barracks on 22 September 1989.

The Society’s Alton branch played its part by selling tickets for the sell-out concert. Speaking after the presentation, Julie Pink, Office Manager at the Alton branch, said: "The Society prides itself on helping the communities it serves and selling tickets to this popular memorial concert was the least we could do."

Derek Shutler, who organised the event and also attended the presentation, said: “We are indebted to the support of Newbury Building Society and the sponsorship by Kemp & Stevens Funeral Directors. Without these businesses this annual concert would not happen.”
