Last week, members from our Thatcham, Hungerford, and Newbury branches were invited to visit the Society’s head office for our second-ever Member Talk event.
The event gives members a fantastic opportunity to meet employees from across the business, hear about what we’re working on, and crucially, have their voices heard through plenty of chances to ask questions and give feedback.
25 members attended the event hosted by our Chief Executive, Phillippa Cardno on 11 April. The event featured a variety of presentations from Melanie Mildenhall (Director of Customer Service), Dean Scott (Director of Proposition and Distribution), Ella Bright (Head of Branch Network - Newbury), and Emma Gentry (Head of Marketing and Communications).
Topics included the refurbishment and extension of our Thatcham branch, the importance of community banking hubs (and what we’re doing to support access to cash in Thatcham!), benefits of Newbury Building Society membership, and Consumer Duty.
Members sometimes think of the Annual General Meeting as the only way to have their say, but these member events and our Member Forum are great ways of getting involved in shaping the Society. Ella and I covered our commitment to the high street, updated members on our Thatcham branch refurbishment plans, and talked about the launch of our mobile app.
Attendees were also treated to canapes, refreshments, and the opportunity to network with our colleagues, including Phillippa. She commented:
“It was great to take part in our Member Talk event last week – to listen and learn from our members and engage them on topics that support the excellent customer service we deliver, which is vital to the Society’s current and future success. Without our members and our employees being the best they can be, we cannot succeed! Thank you and well done to those involved in making the evening such a great event!”

We plan to hold our third Member Talk event in the Basingstoke branch area later this year. If you want to find out more about what we do, meet the people who make it happen, and have your say – keep your eyes on our website for more information!
