Four team members of Newbury Building Society’s Hungerford branch showcased their wellies and perfected their painting skills for nominated charity, Prior’s Court Foundation, as they volunteered to help freshen up the school’s Countryside Learning Centre.
The Countryside Learning Centre is a much loved part of the school’s specialised curriculum for young people with autism, which provides animal therapy, work experience opportunities, physical exercise and a calming environment in which students can interact and help look after animals.
Jane Bosher, Courtney Lewington-Metcalfe, Naomi Hague and Paula Wheeler spent the day giving the mini farm a face lift for the children to enjoy. This small act will help to keep the facilities in great condition, so the young people can continue to spend valuable time with the animals in a safe and pleasant environment.
Maxine Allen, Vocational Skills Instructor at Prior’s Court Foundation said: “Huge thanks to Newbury Building Society who sent four team members from their Hungerford branch to spend the day volunteering at our Countryside Learning Centre. Between them they have power washed and creosoted the stable block and fencing, protecting them from the elements and helping to maintain this lovely environment for the animals and young people to enjoy. A top job – thanks to Jane, Courtney, Naomi and Paula for all their efforts.”
With two rabbits; Dizzy the goat; Boris and Percy the pigs; Sarah, Sue and Dan the sheep, and Merrylegs and Sooty the ponies all residents of the now refreshed mini farm, the Society was delighted to have contributed a small slice of its time to help improve a much loved part of the school.
Paula Wheeler, Senior Customer Service Adviser at Newbury Building Society and a member of the team which attended the volunteering day said: “We had a fantastic day painting the fences and washing down the patios in the Countryside Learning Centre with some great comments from staff members of the school saying they thought the fences looked brand new.”
