We'd love to see you at our upcoming charity quiz night in Alton in aid of our charity branch partner, Dementia Friendly Alton.
We're excited to announce a special fundraising challenge for our head office charity partner, Newbury Soup Kitchen!
On 18 October 2024, a team of employees from Newbury Building Society will leave their beds behind to sleep outside for one whole night.
Although we can never truly understand what it's like to experience homelessness, we want to use this opportunity to raise money and awareness for the brilliant Newbury Soup Kitchen (registered charity number 1179298).
The latest government data on homelessness shows the number of people rough sleeping in England has doubled since 2010. However, national homelessness charity Shelter don't believe this estimate shows the true picture, particularly because homeless people in less visible locations can be overlooked.
Similarly to other parts of the country, homelessness is growing in our own community, and we want to help raise awareness as well as support the work Newbury Soup Kitchen do locally.
Newbury Soup Kitchen support people experiencing homelessness in and around Newbury. Although they provide plenty of fresh, hot, and delicious meals, the help they provide goes far beyond dinner!
Here are some of the other ways the Newbury Soup Kitchen team make a difference:
Provision of outreach services such as eye tests, liver scans, vaccinations, podiatry and haircuts.
Shower and laundry tokens.
Access to supplies such as sleeping bags, tents, toiletries and warm clothes.
Foodbank referrals.
Support, friendly conversation, and the chance to meet likeminded people.
If you'd like to sponsor our team of sleepers, you can make a donation here. Every penny raised will go towards supporting the vital work that Newbury Soup Kitchen do throughout the West Berkshire area.
