Newbury Building Society raise over £40,000 for branch partners

Employees from Newbury Building Society branches were proud to present local charities with cheques after a bumper year of fundraising in 2021.

As a mutual organisation it is incredibly important to us to support local charities and build strong relationships with them, and our charity partnership scheme is just one of the ways in which we do this. You can find out more about our nine current charity partners on this page.

Fundraising activities included everything from cake sales, to festive hamper competitions, to sponsored walks and second-hand book stalls in branches. A large proportion of the funds raised came from the Society's charity savings account. Members who open this account can save and nominate a charity to which the Society makes an annual donation based on the savings balances.

Here are the amazing totals raised for each charity in 2021:

  • Alzheimer's Society - £11,611.06
  • Helen and Douglas House - £4,722.78
  • Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) - £959.02
  • Prior's Court School - £2,210.55
  • St Michael's Hospice - £1,526.70
  • Sue Ryder - £4,062.49
  • The Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust - £4,160.32
  • Newbury and District Cancer Care - £9,358.50

They have raised a very impressive amount, despite the pandemic, and equally important, they have publicised the name of Newbury Cancer Care to the local community. “We are extremely grateful to Newbury Building Society Hungerford Branch for this generous donation, which will be used to help transform the garden in one of our homes for young people with complex autism. The COVID-19 lockdowns have highlighted the importance of maximising our outdoor areas, and so the revamped garden will create a space that provides safe access to the outdoors all year round and much needed sensory and play equipment. Jane and the Hungerford team have done a fantastic job by raising much needed funds, and we hope they will be able to spend some time volunteering with us again soon."
