A cheque for more than £13,000 was presented to Newbury Cancer Care earlier this week by Jane Bosher, Senior Branch Manager of Newbury Building Society’s flagship branch in Newbury.

Jane commented:

“It is an honour to work with a charity that is so close to the hearts of so many people around West Berkshire. The support that Newbury Cancer Care team give patients and their families is amazing and very personal.
The funds we have donated will pay for around half of this year’s transport for patients which is amazing. The teams in Newbury and Thatcham and I look forward to continuing the support for this wonderful charity.”
Jane Bosher Branch Manager, Newbury

Colleagues and members of the Society got involved in a range of fundraising activities to support the charity throughout 2022, including a Christmas hamper prize draw and sales of the Newbury’s annual calendar. Some of the funds also came from the Society’s charity savings account. Members who open this account and save at least £100 into it can nominate one of nine partner charities to which the Society will then make an annual donation based on savings balances.

In addition to the funds raised, employees from the Society also contributed to the development of the charity’s Rainbow Room garden at West Berkshire Hospital through a volunteering project.

Newbury Cancer Care (registered charity number 291975) was founded in 1984 to help local people diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. They offer practical support for patients and their families and work closely with clinical specialists and medical professionals to improve the support offered.
