You will need to have registered your nominated account details to allow online withdrawals.

If you’ve done this already in branch, then you will be allowed to withdraw money from your account.

If you have not registered your nominated account, you will only be able to send money to another Newbury Building Society account that you hold or are signatory on.

You can also request to withdraw by cheque by sending a secure message to the myaccounts team using the send/view message function in myaccounts.

Your nominated bank account is registered when you open a new account online.

In some cases, we will request a bank statement before your nominated bank account can be used for withdrawals.

If you are registering to view your existing account(s) online then you will need to add your nominated account before you can transact unless you already have registered your nominated account in branch.

To register your nominated account:

  1. Log into your myaccounts profile and click on 'Send a secure message' at the bottom of the page.

  2. Select ‘General Query’ and ‘I have a general query’. Please provide us with your account name, sort code and account number (and reference if applicable) of your nominated account. If we require further verification, we will request a bank statement from you.

  3. We will confirm when we have completed the registration of your nominated account details using the secure messaging facility.

You can take out your money anytime, except during the first 14 days after your first deposit.

Withdrawals can be made to your nominated bank account or to another Newbury Building Society account that you hold or are signatory on.

There is a daily withdrawal limit of £50,000 per account, per day, when withdrawing to your nominated bank account.

Withdrawals to another Newbury Building Society account will be subject to the deposit limits in line with the terms and conditions of that account.

Once you have logged in:

  • Select the account you want to withdraw from on the homepage and click ‘View account.’

  • Select ‘Payments’ and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Select ‘Withdraw funds.’

  • Then select your nominated account.

Withdrawals to your nominated account for £50,000 or less requested before 3pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays, will be sent the same day.

Withdrawals requested outside of these times will be sent on the following business day.

In both cases funds should be received on the day they are sent.

Withdrawals against a cheque paid into your account can be made on the sixth working day after it has been deposited with us, provided we have not received notice that it has not been cleared.

For example, a cheque paid in on a Monday will normally be available for withdrawal on the Tuesday of the following week.

Download our Savings terms and conditions for more details. (Please note: this link will download a PDF document).

You can view your account history through our online service back to 2001, if your account has been open that long!

If you require your transaction history over a longer period, please refer to your passbook or contact us and we will be able to issue you with this information.

If you have opened your account online you will not receive a passbook automatically.

If you want to transact in a branch on an account opened online, you will need to request a passbook by visiting your local branch. The passbook will be issued in branch and posted to your registered address, as an additional security measure, before you are able to transact in branch using your passbook.

To get a passbook, you will need to bring signed identification with you, for example, a current passport or photocard driving licence so we can check your signature.

If you have a savings account that requires notice to withdraw, you can either put a specific amount on notice or the whole balance on notice.

For example, an account that requires 90 days’ notice would need 90 days from the date you put the account on notice before you can withdraw.

If you make a withrawal online - we will advise the earliest date that your withdrawal can be made. This allows you to future date your withdrawal, which will then happen automatically when the notice period ends.

If you are visiting a branch - the branch will put your withdrawal amount on notice and you have a period of 7 calendar days from the end of the notice period to make your withdrawal.

Your funds can only be sent to your nominated account or another Newbury Building Society account.

We are unable to process requests over £50,000 online.

You can withdraw by cheque or CHAPS in branch or by postal request.

CHAPS payments do come with a charge for this service (download our Savings terms and conditions for details).  In both cases a passbook will be required.
