Society on a high for charity

Staff from Newbury Building Society’s Abingdon and Didcot branches abseiled down the side of the women's unit of John Radcliffe Hospital on Sunday 20 October 2015.

Helen McMahon, Jenna Powell, Hayley Tustain and Aishling Breakspear took on the challenge to raise money for The Children's Hospital's Fund for Children.

The brave foursome were aiming to raise £400 but thanks to a fantastic response from friends, family and customers, they smashed that target, with the total currently standing at £788.21. The Fund for Children provides the very latest medical equipment and best possible facilities for babies and toddlers through to teens, for all the departments within the Oxford Children's Hospital and across Children's Services within the Trust.

Business Manager for Abingdon and Didcot, Paul Holt, said: “Newbury Building Society is proud to support such a wonderful charity. The fund is vital to the hospital and it’s great to give something back to the community while also challenging ourselves.”

Jenna Powell, Branch Assistant at Abingdon, said: “It was an amazing experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat”. Helen McMahon, Office Manager at Abingdon, agreed: “It was a completely unnatural and terrifying experience. We supported each other all the way down, which helped!”
