Newbury wins Medium Employer of the Year at Rising Star Awards

Newbury Building Society has been named Medium Employer of the Year at this year’s West Berkshire Training Consortium’s (WBTC) Rising Star Awards.

The awards recognised the success of the Training Consortium’s learners and placement employees between April 2019 and March 2020.

HR Adviser, Tina Stephens, who coordinates apprentice placements at the Society was joined by mentor Jane Bosher, and former-apprentices Alice Dearlove and Ryan Marcham to accept the award.

Tina said: “Newbury Building Society has been commended by WBTC over a number of years, so this really is a fantastic outcome! We discovered that our first apprentice via WBTC was back in 1998, and our partnership with the training consortium has gone from strength to strength.”
The Rising Star Awards was originally planned to be held in May 2020 but was postponed until October due to national lockdown restrictions, before being cancelled. As a result, the winners were presented with their awards privately by a representative of West Berkshire Training Consortium.

Matt Garvey, Managing Director at West Berkshire Training Consortium said: “We have worked with Newbury Building Society for many years across a number of apprenticeship programmes and have always been impressed by their dedication to the process. They are extremely supportive of their apprentices, whether they’re school or college leavers or adults returning to study. Their commitment to staff development and training over the years means that they are very worthy winner of the Rising Stars award. We look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come!”
