Newbury Building Society supports Action for Children’s Here4Me project

An Action for Children project in Berkshire received a £500 boost from Newbury Building Society to help fund a rare day out for 20 disadvantaged children as part of the charity’s Here4Me programme.

Following a successful application to the Society’s Community Support Scheme, the £500 donation will give the young people it supports a chance to enjoy their childhood, away from hardships at home, by attending a fun day out.

Lily Haig, Community Fundraiser (Berkshire, Hampshire, and Isle of Wight) at Action for Children said: “Thank you so much for awarding the £500 grant to our Here4Me service in Thatcham. The funds will make a big difference and help go towards giving the children a special trip to provide them with lifelong memories.”

Here4Me, based in Thatcham, provides independent visitors, advocates and mentors for children and young people in care or who identify as in need throughout the local area. The initiative allows the individuals it helps to express themselves positively, befriend role models who share similar interests, build long-term friendships, and to be involved with decisions made about their lives in a constructive and supported manner.

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “We are delighted to fund a rare day out for children in care or on the edge of care in the West Berkshire area and help build positive memories for the disadvantaged. We hope the 20 children and their mentors have a great day out and we look forward to seeing what they get up to.”

Further information about the Society’s Community Support Scheme and eligibility requirements can be found on its dedicated webpage. Applications for 2019 consideration are now open with the panel meeting to allocate the next round of funding in early May.
