Newbury District Swimming Club's swimming camp is back on track thanks to a last-minute donation from Newbury Building Society.
The much-anticipated swimming camp, hosted in Crystal Palace, fell into jeopardy only months before the event due to last minute accommodation complexities and unaffordable price hikes.
The club then applied to Newbury Building Society’s Community Support Scheme in a bid to gain the extra funds they needed. By doing so, they were successfully awarded £500.
Stephanie Holland, Vice Chair and Fixtures Secretary at Newbury District Swimming club said: “This grant from Newbury Building Society meant the club could keep the swimming trip going. After costs increased due to an unexpected closure of our original accommodation, we had to relocate. Due to expense, we thought the trip might had to be cancelled. We are so thankful for this donation; it has meant our swimmers were not disappointed.”
Stephanie continued: “It’s great to have a business in Newbury that values and supports its community. Schemes like the Community Support Scheme enable clubs to do things they may not otherwise be able to do.”
The Community Support Scheme is designed to help local community groups and charities fund ongoing events and fundraising activities with donations between £100 - £500.
Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager said: “We hope the 25 swimmers who are participating in the club enjoy the camp and it was our pleasure to help make it possible.”
