Frights and thrills as Newbury Building Society gets into the spooky spirit

Ghosts, ghouls and skeletons stalked the corridors of Newbury Building Society this week, as staff at its Head Office in Newbury transformed the office into, what could be mistaken as, a scene from a horror movie.

The Society’s head office departments flexed their creativity by decorating their office spaces in spook-tacular fashion. From a witch’s tea party (with a helping of fang fancies and werewolf whirls), a skeleton graveyard and an autumnal haunted cottage, competition was fierce and Roland Gardner, Chief Executive, had the difficult task of picking a winner.

After much deliberation, the Society’s HR department took first prize for their outstanding effort in turning their office into a haunted skeleton dungeon – with glow-in-the-dark t-shirts to match.

With floating ghosts, papier-mâché skeletons, cobwebbed walls and a specially designed headstone, Roland was particularly impressed by the attention to detail and imaginative finesse.

Not content with the one win, the HR department also went on to win the Halloween-themed quiz.

Aside from the fun of decorating departments, to a spooky quiz and a trick-or-treat tuck shop, the Society’s Halloween spirit also had a serious side as all activities raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Over £100 was collected and every penny donated will help the charity continue to raise awareness of dementia within the community, as well as help to keep it top of the political agenda and push for a more dementia-friendly society, so people living with the condition can live life to the fullest.

The Society has so far raised £1040.39 for the Alzheimer’s Society during fundraising activities in 2017.
