Covid19 (Coronavirus): How we continue to support you

Newbury Building Society is here to help you, our customers and members.

We remain mindful that, whilst many of us are now vaccinated, Covid-19 (and strains) continues to impact all of us, and, we need to keep monitoring the situation and act in a way that supports Government, whilst keeping our employees and customers safe. 

We will keep this page updated with any changes to our approach. This page was last updated 29 November 2021. 

Continue to check our branch opening times regularly to ensure you are not disappointed should your local branch be temporarily closed due to employees needing to self-isolate. 


The Government has advised that customers visiting retail outlets from Tuesday 30 November 2021 must wear a mask or face covering. Whilst no other changes have been made at time of writing, we ask you to continue to be respectful and consider how other people may be feeling.

If you’re showing any coronavirus symptoms at all, if you are self-isolating or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive or is self-isolating, please do not visit any of our branches.

When you do visit a branch:

  • You must wear a face covering
  • Be mindful of other people and keep your distance
  • Use hand sanitiser when entering and leaving

We continue to take precautions in all our branches by using sanitisers and regularly cleaning back and front office areas and banking halls.


Our Winchester, Didcot and Hungerford branches remain closed between 3pm and 5pm on weekdays to help support potential workforce reductions within our branch network during the Winter months.

These hours will be reviewed on a regular basis, however we do not expect them to change in the near future given the risks the new Omicron and other potential strains of Covid-19 present to us all.

If you are unable to, or prefer not to, come into the branch to use our counter service, you can operate your account by post or ask a third party to access money for you.

We encourage you to register to use the Society’s online service ‘myaccounts’. This enables you to transfer funds from your savings account to a nominated current account. Please note you should allow 3-4 days for registration and you may need to provide verification of your current account.


Whilst Government assistance through mortgage payment deferrals has ended, we encourage you to contact us at an early stage if you are going to have problems paying your mortgage. We have a number of options open to support you through temporary financial difficulties. Please refer to our mortgage payment problems page for more information on how we can help.
