Brave group jumps for charity

Seven courageous members of staff from Newbury Building Society took part in a tandem sky dive and raised over £2,500 for the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

At the start of 2016, Newbury Building Society was invited by the Pink Ribbon Foundation to participate in a tandem skydive over Swindon, Wiltshire. Nicola Pope, Ellen Harmon and Aishling Breakspear (Basingstoke branch), Louise McCormack (Head Office, Newbury), Laura Whale (Winchester branch), Gemma Adolph and Pippa Bracey (Andover branch) gamely volunteered, so on Sunday 4 September 2016 they fearlessly braved the elements to raise money for the Society’s charity of the year.

The team has raised an amazing £2,695.99 to date, thanks to cake sales, competitions and asking for donations from staff and customers. Aishling Breakspear, who set up the fundraising page, said: “The Society has supported the Pink Ribbon Foundation for a number of years and members of staff wanted to do something a little bit special this year as the Society celebrates its 160th anniversary.”

After completing the sky dive, Laura Whale, said:  “It was incredible! We all had such a good time, the instructors were hilarious, the jump was a fantastic experience, especially being in the clouds, and we got to do it all for a wonderful cause - I would definitely do it again.”

The Pink Ribbon Foundation (Charity Number 1080839) funds projects and provides financial support to UK charities which relieve the needs of people who are suffering from, or who have been affected by breast cancer. They also work to advance the understanding of breast cancer, its early detection and treatment.

The Society continues to hold Pink days in all 11 branches and at Head Office, where on the last Friday of every month staff donate money and wear pink to show their support.
