Newbury Building Society has donated £1000 to West Berks Foodbank to purchase much needed food and essential items.
The donation, taken from the Society’s Community Support Scheme, will help create 7-day, 3-meal food parcels for those in financial need, including children who do not have access to free school meals during the term breaks.
Andrew Bruce, Chairman of West Berks Foodbank said: “West Berks Foodbank greatly appreciates your financial support, which has greatly helped us, as we have been stretching our resources to support people in West Berkshire with crisis food boxes, a listening ear, advice and signposting. To help them survive and resolve some of their core issues in this difficult Covid-19 crisis period. Thank you so much.”
Since the first lockdown, the foodbank has provided 74.5 tonnes of food and essential items to people in West Berkshire – 48.4 tonnes more than 2019 – while the number of households helped increased by over 65% and the number of people fed by a staggering 93.4%.
Michael Harden, Product Marketing Assistant at Newbury Building Society visited the charity and said: “No one should have to go a day without a cooked meal and with Covid-19 showing no sign of slowing, it is more important than ever for the community to stand together and support our most vulnerable people. It was a pleasure to visit the team at West Berks Foodbank and witness their hard work first-hand; the commitment and determination to provide food for all was palpable.”
Applications are now closed for the Society’s 2020 scheme. Dates for applications for the 2021 Community Support Scheme will be confirmed on the Society’s website at the end of November.
