Newbury Building Society helps the community wrap-up warm following successful appeal

Newbury Building Society has praised the generosity of the local community following the conclusion of its Winter Wrap-Up Appeal in which a tremendous amount of winter clothing was donated and distributed between various local charities in Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

The NBS Winter Wrap-Up Appeal, which launched at the end of November 2019, encouraged our colleagues, members and the public to donate unwanted coats, scarves, hats and gloves in support of a charitable organisation committed to improving the lives of homeless and vulnerable people.

Astounded by the kindness shown, the charities which benefitted from the campaign included: Homeless OxfordshireTwo Saints Andover, The Salvation Army Alton, The Camrose Centre Basingstoke, Loose Ends Newbury, Wokingham in Need and Winchester Trinity.

Lorraine Emms-Clements, Community Fundraiser for Homeless Oxfordshire who received the donations collected by the Society’s Abingdon and Didcot branches said: “Homeless Oxfordshire was absolutely delighted to have been contacted by Newbury Building Society to take part in this campaign and are thrilled with the resulting donations. We have been given so many items during the Winter Wrap-Up Appeal and we very much appreciated employees from the Society’s Abingdon branch spending the day at our lock up helping us to put it all in order.”

Helen Dixon, a volunteer at Newbury-based drop-in centre Loose Ends shared the sentiment: “We would like to thank Newbury Building Society for their very generous donation of clothing, following the Winter Wrap-Up Appeal. Loose Ends’ clients have already benefitted from many of the coats, fleeces, gloves & scarves, during the recent cold weather.”

Clare Farrow, Manager at the Camrose Centre in Basingstoke concluded: “The Camrose Centre has been supporting homeless and vulnerably housed people in Basingstoke for 12 years offering food, shower facilities, clothing and a warm safe place to be. We rely on donations to continue to provide our service, so are very grateful for the generous donations received from Newbury Building Society in Basingstoke from their Winter wrap-up campaign.”

Sian Dennis, Senior Marketing and Communications Officer who organised and spearheaded the appeal for the Society said: “This appeal was so much bigger than anything we could have imagined, and I applaud the generosity shown by our kind-hearted members and the public. After the Society visited each charity, it was clear every item was gratefully received and will go to someone who really needs it and these seven charities can continue their great work and help even more people stay warm this winter.”
