Newbury Building Society has donated a total of £8880 to local community-focussed organisations in its branch towns as part of its Community Support Scheme in 2019.

23 different projects benefited from a one-off donation of between £100 - £500 which aligned with four key focus areas:

  1. To promote and encourage sport activities for all ages, genders, ability and circumstances
  2. To promote and encourage activity in the arts
  3. To support educational initiatives
  4. To support conservation and environmental work within the community

Organisations such as Swings and Smiles, Citizen’s Advice West Berkshire, Berkshire Autistic Society, Berkshire MS Therapy Centre, Thatcham Youth, to name only a few, received funding for various ongoing fundraising activities and standalone events.

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “In a tough economic climate with many organisations facing drastic budget cuts, we continued to work with local groups and community projects which over a lifeline to many local people. From supporting financial literacy sessions to working with those living with a life-changing condition, our Community Support Scheme will continue to help those organisations which seam the fragile fabric of our communities together.”

The Community Support Scheme, which launched in 2017, provides financial assistance to a wide range of local projects involved in improving life within the Society’s 10 branch towns.

Funding is considered twice a year with deadlines for 2020 funding confirmed as Sunday 3 May 2020 and Sunday 1 November 2020.
