Oh yes we did! Panto fun for Swings & Smiles

Swings & Smiles, a local charity which supports children and young people with disabilities and special needs, enjoyed an afternoon of festive fun at this year’s pantomime following a donation from Newbury Building Society.

The £500 donation, which was awarded from the Society’s Community Support Scheme, went to towards the purchase of tickets for this year’s show, Sleeping Beauty, and ice creams for members of the charity’s Spectrum Club (11-15 years) and Oasis Club (16 years and over).

Sara East, Sibling Coordinator at Swings and Smiles said: “We were really pleased to receive funding from Newbury Building Society through Community Support Scheme. It’s a great way for companies to get involved with a charity and provide opportunities for them. This funding is helping us take a group of autistic young people to the pantomime as a Christmas treat.”

Both youth groups support high-functioning children and young people with an Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis. Spectrum and Oasis were originally hosted by the National Autistic Society before Swings & Smiles absorbed the clubs in May 2019.

Sian Dennis, Senior Marketing and Communications Officer said: “The communities in which our branch network operates for the heart of the Society, and that’s why it was a delight to meet the members of Spectrum club and Oasis club to see first-hand their genuine excitement for this year’s pantomime. Their excitement was both infectious and palpable; I hope they enjoyed the show.”
