Community grant success for local riding centre

Newbury Building Society awarded £250 to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Ferry Hinksey club, following a successful application to the Community Support Scheme.

The small riding centre, which works out of the Blewbury Riding Centre based in Abingdon, enriches the lives of adults in and around Oxfordshire living with physical and learning disabilities through therapy and fun with horses and ponies.

Roger Beveridge, Chairman of Ferry Hinksey RDA Group said: “The Community Support Scheme is vitally important in allowing local charities and organisations to flourish. We are pleased and elated to receive the news our application had been successful; thank you Newbury Building Society.”

The donation made through the Society’s Community Support Scheme will not only contribute to the day-to-day running costs, it will also help the centre maintain its RDA membership as well as continue to extensively subsidise sessions for its riders.

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager said: “We are delighted to award Ferry Hinksey RDA Group with a cheque for £250. A much loved and valued riding centre, we hope our contribution goes some way in helping its volunteers and riding instructors continue to make a positive difference to the lives of its riders and their families.”

The Ferry Hinksey RDA Group is one of 500 centres across the UK and is run by volunteers and qualified riding coaches.

Applications for the Community Support Scheme funding are considered on a bi-annual basis. The next deadline for submissions is Sunday 3 November 2019.
