Newbury helps local gymnastics club go for gold

Newbury Building Society was delighted to award Newbury Gymnastics Club £500 to replace old and worn equipment as part of its Community Support Scheme.

Based at Park House School in Newbury and run by volunteers, the non-for-profit club provides after school activities to students aged 5 – 12 of various abilities who are working towards completing their British gymnastics proficiency awards level 1 – 8 as well as bronze, silver and gold awards.

About the Community Support Scheme, Colin Fox, a member of Newbury Gymnastics Club said: “We were in the process of fundraising to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary when we read about the scheme in the Society’s savers magazine, Your Society. This sort of initiative is vitally important to help non-profit organisations which, without it, may never take place.”

Colin continued: “We are thrilled, amazed and very grateful to Newbury Building Society. This sponsorship will enable us to provide children with fundamental gymnastics skills that are transferrable to other sporting and social activities. Thank you for your support and for sponsoring Newbury Gymnastics Club for local children.”

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “It was a pleasure to visit the club during its 40th birthday celebrations and meet the volunteers and children who are passionate about gymnastics. We hope our donation will help fund new equipment which the students can enjoy, and I wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Applications for the Community Support Scheme funding are considered on a bi-annual basis. The next deadline for submissions is Sunday 3 November 2019.
