Newbury Building Society supports sustainability workshop

Andover-based charity Unity, has been granted £400 following a successful application to Newbury Building Society’s Community Support Scheme.

The umbrella organisation for charities and groups based across the Test Valley region, Unity aims to help local community projects thrive and prosper during a financially turbulent time.

The donation will help plan and host a workshop for charitable groups to educate them on how they can become more sustainable and even consider trading as a future option. The one-off event, which is due to take place in January 2019, will focus on social enterprise, investment and current business models which work well. It will also offer the opportunity for charities to network and encourage potential future partnership working.

Terry Bishop, Chief Executive at Unity said: “We are delighted to have received this funding from Newbury Building Society to help us provide vital information to charities. It is a challenging time financially for groups and we hope the event will give some food-for-thought and help organisations consider new ways of working to generate funds as donations and grants are becoming much harder to secure.”

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “We are delighted to sponsor this one-off event. Future-proofing the way charities work is vital in ensuring vulnerable people have a support network they can turn to, even though funds are short. We wish Unity all the best.”

Further information about the Society’s Community Support Scheme and eligibility requirements can be found on its dedicated webpage. Applications for 2019 consideration are now open with the panel meeting to allocate the next round of funding in early May.
