As part of the final round of funding for this year’s Community Support Scheme, Newbury Building Society presented Wokingham Foodbank with a cheque for £500.
A life-line for those in need, the foodbank - which receives no funding from local or central governments - applied for a one-off grant to help cover utility bills, rent, council tax, insurance, food storage and other operating expenditure for a short period of time.
Barry Keech, Trustee of Wokingham Foodbank said: “The trustees and the team that operate Wokingham Foodbank are most grateful to Newbury Building Society for this donation. It will provide an enhancement to our finances and a morale boost to everyone working in the foodbank, who are unpaid and selflessly give their own time supporting vulnerable people in their community.”
Last year, Wokingham Foodbank fed over 2000 vulnerable people of which over 900 were children.
Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “We are committed to supporting local people and therefore, giving to Wokingham Foodbank was an easy decision to make. We hope our donation will help keep the lights on and support those in need.”
