Newbury Building Society is delighted to announce Maria Arkwright as this year’s ‘NBS Photographer of the Year’ whose image ‘Brr! It’s Cold Outside’ will take pride of place on the front of Newbury Building Society’s 2019 calendar.
On entering, Maria shared why she entered her photograph, which was taken at Thatcham Nature Reserve: “I love the peace and tranquillity of walking around the Nature Reserve first thing in the morning but the beauty of a Robin in winter, all fluffed up against the cold, swells my heart with joy and I can recall that moment each time I look at the photograph.”
Maria not only takes the front cover of the calendar, but also the top prize of a GoPro Hero5 camera.
With 78 entries, this year’s intake of snaps consisted of a blend of different locations, styles, perspectives and motifs entered from across the Society’s branch network. In October, the judging panel had the difficult decision to whittle down the array of adorable family pets, beautiful landscapes and historic landmarks to the shortlisted 24, which went to the public vote.
The Society received a total of 1,900 public votes through Facebook and its website. The votes have been counted and we are delighted to share with you the final 12. You can view the full gallery here, including the accompanying stories from each photographer about why their image is particularly special to them.
The calendar will be available in all Newbury Building Society branches from Thursday 1st November and is free – although a small donation towards your branch’s charity is welcomed. There is a limit of two calendars per customer to ensure stocks last for all.
