Fresh kit for Footy4Girls following local sponsorship

Footy4Girls, a community-run sports programme in Andover, has unveiled its new kit for the under-11s and under-13s Andover New Street girls team following a cash injection from Newbury Building Society.

Following a successful application to the Society’s popular Community Support Scheme, Footy4Girls was awarded £500 to go towards new kit for the club’s under-9, under-11, under-12 and under-13 squads. Any surplus funds will be invested into essential first-aid kits, replenish old training gear and purchase new equipment as well as winter jackets for the club’s volunteer coaches as the colder months draw in.

Simon Dewhurst, Chairman of Footy4Girls said: “On behalf of all of us at Footy4Girls, we would like to say a big thank you for the contribution towards our new match kits. Our aim for this season was to kit all of our young footballers out in the same kit so as to add to the experience. Having Newbury Building Society on board as our whole group sponsor means that we can achieve our off field goals and have an identity that helps us look more professional. This in turn transitions onto the field to help the girls behave and perform in a more professional manner. By far the best £500 Newbury Building Society has ever spent. We aren’t necessarily changing lives but maybe we are affecting lives in a positive enough way to make some long term change.”

Newbury Building Society’s sponsorship of the club will run for two seasons and cease in May 2020.

Simon continued: “Footy4Girls was created to give the female footballers within our community a unique identity that enables all to feel as one.”

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “As a growing grassroots, community run programme which relies solely on volunteers, we were delighted to donate £500 to go towards new kit for the club’s four teams. As the only club currently offering girls football in the Andover area, we were impressed with the commitment of all those involved to ensure football is accessible for all. Both the under-11s and under-13s Andover New Street female teams look great in their new kits and we wish them all the best for the upcoming season.”

The Community Support scheme, which was launched in 2017, provides financial assistance to a wide range of local organisations involved in improving community life within its branch towns. Typical award amounts start from £100 with a cap of £500. Applications for the Society’s Community Support scheme funding are considered twice a year in May and November, and an application form can be found on the dedicated webpage. Projects that promote and encourage sporting activity and in the arts, support education and development, and benefit the local environment within the Society’s branch towns will be considered.

Footy4Girls is the girls youth arm of the FA Charter Standard Community Club Andover New Street FC. This season the club will be running with four teams for the first time since its inception back in 2012. Under-9s, under-11s, under-12s and under-13s teams will be competing in the newly formed Hampshire Girls Youth Football League.
