Christmas comes early for Didcot Events and Newbury Building Society

Newbury Building Society was delighted to award local non-for-profit community interest group, Didcot Events, £500 towards its 25th Didcot Christmas Street Fair following a successful application to the Society’s Community Support Scheme.

With the goal to raise £20,000 for the event, the one-off donation will go towards funding some of the festive entertainers in keeping with the Winter Wonderland theme. The Society will also be the proud sponsor of a specially made Christmas selfie frame available for attendees to use and take a few snaps of themselves at the event.

Jeanette Howse, BEM Chairman of Didcot Christmas Street Fair said: “I am delighted Newbury Building Society has supported Didcot Christmas Street Fair for the past 25 years, this year in particular we are thrilled to receive the sponsorship. We truly value the support we get from the Society, especially from those at the Didcot branch.”

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “We’re no stranger to the Didcot Events organisation as we have proudly supported the Christmas Street Fair since its inception 25 years ago. Sponsoring this year’s event was an easy decision for us to make as its festive activities brings the whole community – young and old – together for an evening of entertainment and winter fun. We hope our donation goes towards another successful event later in the year and we look forward to what surprises it may have in store.”

The Community Support scheme, which was launched in 2017, provides financial assistance to a wide range of local organisations involved in improving community life within its branch towns. Typical award amounts start from £100 with a cap of £500.  Applications for the Society’s Community Support scheme funding are considered twice a year in May and November, and an application form can be found on the dedicated webpage. Projects that promote and encourage sporting activity and in the arts, support education and development, and benefit the local environment within the Society’s branch towns will be considered.

The 25th Didcot Christmas Street Fair will be held on Thursday 29th November 2018, 4pm – 9pm.
