The charity applied for financial support for its ‘Loud and Clear’ speech therapy sessions and Tai-Chi exercise classes.
The sun shone for employees of Newbury Building Society’s Didcot branch as they raced to the finish line as part of Helen & Douglas House’s Bubble Rush 5k in Oxford.
In a bid to fundraise as much money as possible in-branch and through the dedicated Just Giving page, the team raised an astonishing £415.54 – which will be matched by the Society’s executive board to give a grand total of £831.08 - for the charity which cares for terminally ill children and young adults in the local area.
Ella Bright, Hannah Tame, Angela Bradshaw, Claire Gale and Gemma Johnson were showered in pink and blue bubbles at the family-friendly course which attracted more than 850 participants and stretched in and around the beautiful setting of Cutteslowe Park, Oxford. Participants were encouraged to dance, walk and run through the frothy foam to add a bit of colourful drama to the event.
Samantha Jones was also on hand to volunteer at one of the four bubble stations which were scattered along the route, designed to cover runner in foam as they passed.
Julie Harris, Senior Branch Manager at Newbury Building Society’s Didcot and Abingdon branches said: “It was brilliant to be part of such a vibrant event and the team had a great time. It was colourful, good fun and the atmosphere was electric as hundreds of people gathered on Cutteslowe one goal in mind – to show support for Helen & Douglas House. We are delighted to continue fundraising for the charity and hope the funds raised will go some way in helping the organisation continue its life changing work.”
Oxfordshire’s Bubble Run was one of 45 bubble-filled 5k events taking place around the UK. All money raised will go towards Helen & Douglas funded hospices.
