Newbury Building Society appoints Piers Williamson as Non-Executive

Newbury Building Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Piers Williamson as a Non-Executive to its Board of Directors – a role which commenced 1 January 2018.

Joining the Board of Directors Piers brings with him more than 30 years experience, gained across the UK, US and European financial markets, having specialised in treasury risk management and risk governance.

Piers has been the Chief Executive of The Housing Finance Corporation (THFC) – a mutual lender to UK Housing Associations – for the past 14 years, and has worked extensively with the government and with government agencies. He is viewed as a sector leader on all aspects of housing finance, and speaks regularly at a variety of industry events such as the National Housing Conference 2017 and the Housing Finance Conference and Exhibition.

Piers has also received a lifetime contribution award at the Housing Association National Accountancy Awards.

Piers commented: “I am delighted to be joining the Board of Newbury Building Society and look forward to helping the Society develop its business strategy and performance. In particular, Newbury Building Society is an important lender in the Affordable Housing arena and I am eager that my experience in that field should be used to help the Society strengthen its position in that market even further. Member owned businesses have much to offer their local communities and I will do my best to encourage Newbury Building Society to build up its presence further.”

On joining the Board, Piers became a member of the Society’s Risk Committee to advise on financial risk management objectives and policies.

Roland Gardner, Chief Executive of Newbury Building Society said: “We are pleased to welcome Piers to the Society’s Non-Executive Board of Directors. His extensive knowledge, impressive career history and excellent industry reputation will only strengthen our ability to further develop and help achieve our vision for the future.”
