Just because you're self-employed, a contractor or freelancer, it doesn't mean obtaining a mortgage is harder than someone with a set salary. With the right amount of preparation and planning, the process can be easier than you think.
Newbury Building Society is delighted to award its branch charity, Friends of PICU, with a cheque for £432.44, after branch staff successfully completed a 100 mile virtual-cycle ride – 10 miles for every year the charity has been active in the local community.
Cyclists from the Society’s Winchester branch managed to finish their gruelling charity cycle in record time, and even accomplished an additional 10 miles on top of their original target of 100 miles.
Mark Hilder, Secretary for Friends of PICU said: “A virtual ‘wheelie’ big thank you to Newbury Building Society’s Winchester Branch for their fabulous cycle challenge for Friends of PICU. Friends of PICU were thrilled to support the 110 mile virtual cycle challenge undertaken in the NBS branch. Our mascot Ellie the Elephant also joined in with the cycling to help support the team reach their target.”
“We are proud to have recently funded the expansion of PICU to 16 beds, from the current 14, and the newly dedicated PICU ambulance which was delivered in July. We are now fundraising towards our next major project, which is the renovation of the on-site parent accommodation, and the money so kindly donated from this challenge will be used to support this key project.”
Lisa Wedge, Office Manager of the Winchester branch for Newbury Building Society said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be able to award Friends of PICU with a cheque for £432.44. We’re really pleased with the final amount raised and the 110 miles cycled – the sore legs were worth it – and we hope to do it all again next year with more miles and more donations! This is a fantastic charity which tirelessly provides support and services to those in its care. We’d like to thank those who donated online as well as in branch, and who came to cheer us on during the event.”
A registered charity (1116880) based at University Hospital Southampton, Friends of PICU was nominated as the partner charity for the Winchester branch at the beginning of 2017. Since then, the Society and the charity have worked together to raise as much money as possible to help provide essential equipment and services for the children who are in the care of the unit.
