Newbury Building Society supports Headway Oxfordshire

Newbury Building Society has awarded Headway Oxfordshire a cash donation following the charity being stripped of all its statutory funding last year.

The most welcome one-off donation of £500, awarded from the Society’s Community Support scheme, will go towards the running costs of the charity’s Activity and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC), including staffing, cooking materials, art equipment, drama classes, and vocational training courses.

Jamie Miller, CEO at Headway Oxfordshire said: “At a time of dwindling statutory resources and ever-increasing demand on Headway Oxfordshire’s services, we are hugely reliant on the support of our local business community. Newbury Building Society is demonstrating real philanthropy with their Community Support Scheme and all at Headway Oxfordshire are hugely grateful for their support and generosity. This money will go directly to improving resources in our Activity and Rehabilitation Centre and the lives of those affected by the brain injury.”

Newbury Building Society’s Community Support scheme provides financial assistance to a wide range of organisations in their branch communities, involved in improving community life. Typical award amounts start from £100 with a cap of £500.

Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society said: “The communities in which our branch network operates form the heart of the Society. We are committed to giving something back to the communities in which our members and staff live and work, and pride ourselves on being a local institution. Headway’s ARC is at the centre of the range of services the charity provides, and it is a vitally important unit to both Oxfordshire and the rest of the UK. It was an easy decision for us to donate and help maintain the basic running of the organisation during a financially difficult time.”

Applications for the Society’s Community Support scheme funding are considered twice a year in May and November, and an application form can be found on the dedicated webpage. Projects that promote and encourage sporting activity and in the arts, support education and development, and benefit the local environment within the Society’s branch towns will be considered.
