Here For YouReputation
At Newbury Building Society, we are known for our excellent level of customer service, widespread community involvement and our firm commitment to providing long-term value to all members. Our membership objectives encapsulate our promise to you.
As a building society, we are owned by our members and therefore work solely in their interests. Because we are mutual, we do not have to pay dividends to shareholders and this gives us a clear advantage over banks and former building societies. It means we can invest our profit into better savings and mortgage rates for the long-term benefit of our members.
We have been finalists in What Mortgage magazine's "Best regional Lender" awards for the last six years. This is independent recognition of our ability to provide long-term value to borrowers.
Our current savings rates can be found here. We introduced an existing members account for members in 2001, which gives a number of other added value benefits.
The Money Advice Service
When it comes to your money, impartial information and tools can help you work out what’s right for you. The Money Advice Service is a free, independent service set up by the Government. It gives clear, unbiased money advice to help you make informed choices. The website includes a financial health check based around a series of multiple choice questions on your personal budget. It focuses on your attitude to money and looks at your current situation in relation to savings, debt and housing costs as well as considering future changes to income or circumstances. The financial health check then provides you with the top three things you can do to make the most of your money now, along with an action plan for future goals.
Service to you
Branches are the key to giving members an excellent personal service and our head office, based in the heart of Newbury, acts as a valuable support function. We recognise the need to investigate other distribution channels and are continually looking at new and better ways of bringing products and services to members.
We have around 110 employees and invest a great deal of time in training and developing them to deliver excellent service to members. Staff are encouraged to become both academically and professionally qualified. The Society is proud to hold The National Skills Academy - Financial Services award, which is independent recognition of its commitment to staff training and development.
We need you to give us feedback on what we do. We exist for our members, so need to know what we are doing right and what we could improve on. We welcome suggestions and are ready to answer any questions you have, whether you contact us by telephone, email, or in person.
Each year we send members our "Your Society" newsletter, which gives you an insight into what your Society has been doing during the year and what plans we have for the future. We have an email update service that you can subscribe to for news on interest rates, products, jobs and community events. Our newsroom features regular communications and press coverage for you to read at your leisure.
