Newbury in your community

Community involvement makes good business sense. We help communities continue to be vibrant places to live and we give our members and employees a better place to go about their day-to-day life.

Every year, Newbury Building Society spends 1 - 2% of pre-tax profit on the communities we operate in. Our involvement is not only financial, we also offer our business expertise and the time of our staff.

Our community program covers a wide variety of areas. Our aim is to spread our investment to help projects that affect many people. This is why we sponsor major local events, such as Newbury carnival, the Crafty Craft race and the Royal County of Berkshire Show. We don't just invest in Newbury, although this is the area where most of our members live and work. We endeavour to make a difference in every town we operate in. Our local links page gives an insight into the variety of organisations we have helped in the last few years.

Social responsibility is at the core of our business. As a local organisation, we have a responsibility towards our community and its economy. In addition to our financial contribution, members of staff are involved with the following organisations, as well as local sports and social clubs:

  • West Berkshire Housing Group
  • Sovereign Housing Association
  • Warden Housing Association
  • Abbeyfield Society (residential homes for the elderly)
  • Newbury Town Centre Management Steering Group
  • Newbury & District Agricultural Society
  • Newbury & Thatcham Hospital Building Trust
  • Thatcham Town Council Committee
  • Youth Speaks
  • Didcot Street Fair Committee
  • Andover Town Marketing Committee
  • Assist, Alton

We also have a strong partnership with Newbury Volunteer Bureau and with them have set up a Staff Volunteering Service, where each member of staff is given the opportunity to make a difference by volunteering for a good cause in their local area.

We encourage our members to tell us of organisations that they think are worthy recipients of our financial or 'hands-on'involvement. We will consider suggestions with an open mind and come to a reasoned decision.
