    Working With Us

People like working for the Newbury because they benefit from working in an open and friendly environment. Our members are important to us, so we employ staff who are sensitive to their needs and train them so that they can give excellent personal service.

    Training

When you join us, we will give you a personal training plan, so you can manage your own development. Your line manager will work with you to give you the training you need. This may incorporate any of the following training methods:

    • Self-study learning programs
    • CD-rom and Powerpoint training packages
    • Branch/department training sessions
    • In-house group training
    • External group or individual training
We have an intranet, which is your reference to procedural manuals and our monthly staff newsletter, "News for You".

    Career development

Whatever your role in the Society, your personal training plan will help you focus on your career direction and manage your own progress.

We encourage you to take on more responsibility and participate in projects and initiatives, to further your experience. Ultimately, your career progression is up to you but your line manager will guide you in the right direction.

We are keen for staff to become both academically and professionally qualified. We have a strong partnership with West Berkshire Training Consortium, who, in particular, have provided training for the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). We also have a large proportion of staff qualified or working towards the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP), which is the industry's recognised professional qualification for mortgage advice.

    Investors in people

The Society is proud to hold the Investors in People award, which is independent recognition of commitment to staff training and development.
